About John Gilger
The making of a renaissance man
Born in a small farm town in Southern Utah, John quickly learned that sales paid better than farm labor. At age 8, he experienced his first entrepreneurial success selling greeting cards door-to-door. As he grew up, John sold encyclopedias, pots and pans, even Tupperware part-time while going to school.
His chemical engineering education was interrupted by the war in Vietnam. John chose to volunteer for the Submarine Service rather than be drafted. He graduated near the top of his class in Naval Nuclear Power School (an intense engineering program). Later in his Navy career, John accepted the challenge of “selling the Navy” and graduated with honors from Navy Recruiting School. After retiring as a Chief Machinist Mate, John was a Regional Sales Manager for A.L. Williams, a nation-wide insurance agency.
As the son of a fourth-generation English teacher, John inherited a love of language, reading, writing and playing with words. His dissatisfaction with the insurance and financial services company-provided sales materials led him to “do it better” himself. This success evolved into his current career as a copywriter. In his mind, it is a perfect blend of his talents and interests — sales/persuasion and writing.
After moving to Las Vegas, John worked for the world’s cutting edge software and data management companies in the hospitality and gaming business documenting their research and development of networked data warehousing and customer relations management tools.
In addition to John’s extensive education in the Navy, he attended night school at National University in San Diego and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with Summa Cum Laude honors. Later, while working as the Engineering Maintenance Manager during the transition of Rocky Flats from a nuclear weapons factory to an environmental clean-up project, John studied for his Masters degree in Environmental Regulatory Compliance. More recently, he has completed the “Accelerated Course for Six-Figure Copywriting” and “The Masters Program for Six-Figure Copywriting” offered by American Artists and Writers Institute.
Since 2002, John has been creating successful direct response messages (mail, online, and radio) for a wide variety of clients.
Today, John focuses his business on creating business to business (B2B) sales and marketing materials for technical and industrial companies.
John lives with his wife in the Las Vegas valley. They have three grown children.
