John’s Background
Born in a small farm town in Southern Utah, John quickly learned that sales jobs were better than farm labor. Since his first belly-flop in the pool of success as an enterprising eight-year old door-to-door greeting card salesman, John dreamed about, schemed about, and studied success. The list of success books read and studied is as long as your arm. He may have read nearly all the old motivation, positive thinking, law of attraction, win friends and influence people, and work harder not smarter literature that he could get his hands on. Along the way, he applied what he read to his entrepreneurial projects, selling encyclopedias, pots and pans, even Tupperware part time while going to college.
His education was rudely interrupted by the war in Vietnam, so John chose to volunteer for the Submarine Service rather than be drafted. He graduated near the top of his class in Naval Nuclear Power School (an intense engineering program). A natural leader, John quickly became a role model and mentor for other future leaders in the Navy. Later in his Navy career, John accepted the challenge of “selling the Navy” and graduated with honors from Navy Recruiting School.
After his retirement, John worked as a Regional Sales Manager for A.L.W Insurance, a nation-wide insurance agency. His most enjoyable experience was in recruiting and training new members of the sales team. John’s teaching skills are part of his heritage as the son of a fourth-generation English teacher. John inherited a love of language, reading, writing, and playing with words along with a knack for explaining complicated ideas in simple terms. His dissatisfaction with company-provided sales materials led him to “do it better” himself. This success evolved into a position as a copywriter and Creative Director for the Higher Power Marketing advertising agency. In his mind, it is a perfect blend of his talents and interests – sales/persuasion, writing, and mentoring “the new kids” in the business.
In addition to John’s extensive education in the Navy, he attended night school at National University in San Diego and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with Summa Cum Laude honors.
Today, John focuses his business on public speaking and mentoring, coaching, and teaching business and life success skills. He is available for private one-on-one coaching, group coaching live or in the webinar format.
John is married with three grown children. He is thoroughly enjoying the life he has learned how to manifest.
